PVC- and BPA-Free Formula

N.E.W. Plastics Corp. has been at the forefront of sustainable plastics manufacturing since 1968 and provides products in both prime and recycled resins suitable for a wide range of application needs.

We do not produce products containing PVC or BPA.

High Density Polyethylene (HDPE)

HDPE is the most widely used resin for extrusion blown plastic bottles. The material is economical and impact resistant. Naturally translucent, color additives will make the material opaque but not glossy. Lighter containers will be flexible while heavier containers will be more rigid.

HDPE is compatible with a wide range of products, including:

HDPE is NOT appropriate for:

  • Solvents
  • Products filled over 160° F

High Gloss High Density Polyethylene

High Gloss HDPE is a special HDPE copolymer resin designed to yield a glossy surface. Different color choices will yield various levels of sheen, with white being the least reflective.

Low Density Polyethylene (LDPE)

Similar to HDPE, LDPE is less rigid and generally less chemically resistant but more translucent.

LDPE is best for:

  • Squeeze applications
  • High-gloss color applications

LDPE is NOT appropriate for:

  • Solvents
  • Products filled over 160° F
  • Some chemical containers

Medium Density Polyethylene (MDPE)

MDPE combines low and high density polyethylene. Bottles are less translucent than LDPE but more flexible than HDPE. Like LDPE, MDPE is glossy when produced in colors.

Post Consumer Resin (PCR)

PCR is a blend of reclaimed post consumer natural HDPE, primarily from milk and water containers. The material is first ground (chopped), then washed and dried, and finally is pelletized into uniform pellets that look like prime virgin material.

PCR material usually has a slight yellow tint which can normally be hidden by adding color.

PCR is compatible with a wide range of products including:

  • Acids & caustics
  • Liquid detergents, shampoos, dry powders (not food related), some chemicals

PCR is NOT appropriate for:

  • Direct food contact
  • FDA-approved applications

Polypropylene (PP)

PP is a naturally translucent material which provides ultimate product clarity. This material is great in hot fill packaging of products - such as food and some chemicals.

PP is easily processed via injection blow molding. This leads to a very precise part with tight tolerances for accurate gram weights and neck specifications. This is also beneficial for hot fill packaging requirements.

Some PP materials are autoclavable and offers the potential for steam sterilization. Produced in color, polypropylene exhibits a glossy finish.

PP is compatible with:

  • Hot fill products up to 190° F
  • Steam sterilization
  • Chemical applications

Polypropylene may have poor impact resistance in cold temperatures and is not ideal for freezer containers or products that could be stored outside in cold weather.

Bio Resins

N.E.W. Plastics Corp. Custom Blow Molding has the ability to produce containers made with biodegradable resins. Our research and development team is continuously looking for ways to improve sustainability in our packaging. We are currently investigating ways to increase shelf life and integrity for packaging with bio-resins.
